Census information indicates she was born in 1862 - but probably in December and not registered until the following year.
Later census information says that she was born in Broad Lanes. This was a hamlet that was at the border between Bilston. Sedgley and Coseley. |

Census |
Ada's family are living at 'Coseley Street'. This does not exist any more, but as the continuation of Broad Lanes is called Coseley Road today, it is probably in this area. The address suggests a court of houses. These often had shared facilities such as a washroom and toilets in a central block. The area has now been redeveloped, so it is impossible to see what the housing was like.
Ada is now 17/18 and no longer listed with her family.
It seems that she left home to try to earn her own living.

Her trade as a tailoress makes sense with the training she could have got from her parents. But, it seems that setting out on her own did not go well. |

By my reckoning, Ada's 49th birthday would have been in the December of 1911, so she was only just 49 when she died. |
